Serena will have words with Tiriac

“The same prize money … but the revenue from women is only 25 per cent. That’s fact,” Madrid Open owner Ion Tiriac told Sport Bild earlier this month. “The men ask me: ‘Ion, how long do you want to pay the women with my money?’ “

“With all due respect, 36 years old, weighing 90 kilograms, I also wish something different for the women,” he added, referring to Serena Williams.

In an interview with the New York Times, Williams said she wasn’t going to let that one pass.

“I’ll have words with him, believe me, I’ll have words with him,” she said.
