MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Hong Kong cancellation means Tianjin changes

After the Hong Kong event was cancelled, the WTA was fortunate there was another tournament scheduled in Asia, so they could try to accommodate more players.

Tennis.Life is told they’ve increased the Tianjin qualifying from 24 to 32 – three rounds and four qualifiers, instead of two and six.

So there will be two more singles direct entries. Venus Williams, who had entered Hong Kong, should squeeze into Tianjin.

But it also means several players who might have been straight in will be bumped by players who originally had prioritized Hong Kong over Tianjin, but who now have no option.
