ROME – There were only two singles matches on tap for Tuesday, as this eternal tournament starts to get to the business end, even with five more days to go.

It was the quarterfinals in the bottom half of the draw, left bereft by Aryna Sabalenka and others who exited early.

But the cancellation of two fourth-round matches Monday meant that No. 1 Iga Swiatek got a Centrale slot to play her match against Donna Vekic, while the quarterfinal between Kudermetova and Zheng got pushed to Pietrangeli.

Everyone got through, despite a little rain, with Anhelina Kalinina finishing it off against Beatriz Haddad Maia after 11:30 p.m.
