PARIS –  A year ago, Gabriel Diallo hadn’t even started playing tournaments, as he was finishing up at the University of Kentucky and was barely inside the top 1000.

Flash forward, and the Canadian kid was in the Roland Garros qualifying, his second Slam qualifying attempt after January’s Australian Open.

He was (of course, because the scheduling gods put Carol Zhao first up at 10 a.m.) last on Court 6 which means the lights will probably werevon by the time he hits a ball. Diallo had set points in the second set to push it to three, but he couldn’t quite pull it out.
