PARIS – Typically, the final round of qualifying is played for both the men and women on the same day – as far as we can remember, anyway.

But for whatever reason, Roland Garros is only playing … 14 of the 32 final-round matches on Thursday. Perhaps they schedule it over five days in case there are weather issues. Which this year, has not been the case at all.

The remaining 18 will happen Friday.

They also get another day of gate receipts for the “opening week”, as they call it.

The last Canadian remaining – Chile-representing Alejandro Tabilo – went down to Andrea Vavassori in the final round. So there are no additional players beyong the five who were straight into singles with their rankings.
