The way Iga Swiatek blew the hard-hitting Coco Gauff off the court in their Saturday semifinal, it was hard to imagine anyone – especially unseeded Liudmila Samsonova – beating her in the final.
And Samsonova, who had a huge week blowing the field as an unseeded player, just wasn’t able to come up with that occasional form that makes her unbeatable. Not even close.
Swiatek was just too good.
On the doubles side, most of the best teams in the world – including a bunch who are trying to qualify for the WTA Finals – were in the draw. But the two teams who made it to the final day are both unseeded, and good pals Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo get the big WTA 1000 win.
(Beijing is 12 hours ahead of ET).
