No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Daria Kasatkina, who declined to represent Belarus and Russia in the Olympics, are getting their summer hard-court campaigns going.
Sabalenka had issue with the teres major muscle in her shoulder area which affected her serve and certainly was a cause for concern. Hopefully she’s found a way to address that because the next six weeks or so are going to be gruelling. She had a tough one Wednesday, but squeaked through. Kasatakina is already out.
And Emma Raducanu, who pulled off a gritty opening win, looked to back it up against feisty American Peyton Stearns. And did it, in straight sets.
