The two highest-profile players remaining in the draw – besties Paula Badosa and No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka – luckily are on opposite sides of the draw.

That gave the Citi Open two good semis – and the possiblity that the two could meet in the final. Which would be a good outcome. It didn’t happen, though, as even a long rain delay couldn’t get Sabalenka’s head back in the game. And Marie Bouzkova’s good work against world No. 3s continues.

The doubles final also goes – as the No. 1 seeds posted a win, a walkover, and a walkover over a team that had already received a walkover in the quarterfinals. Pretty dire on that end of things.
