–
It took a lot for Aryna Sabalenka to get through Coco Gauff and her serving woes on Saturday in the semifinals.
But with a 3-0 head-to-head against finals opponent Zheng Qinwen, she certainly could be confident.
Only once in six sets played had Zheng managed to get more than three games – most recently a 6-1, 6-2 dusting she suffered in the quarterfinals of the US Open. All three of their previous meetings had taken place a majors – twice in the US Open quarters the last two years, and in January in the Australia Open final.
Things can change. And Zheng is a much better player now, and had a full house of countrymen and women cheering her on. It was almost enough – but not quite enough as Sabalenka takes it.
