MELBOURNE, Australia – The Canadian contingent competing around the planet brought home the hardware last week.
It was definitely a great kick off to the 2025 season, starting with Félix Auger-Aliassime winning his sixth career ATP Tour title in Adelaide – his first outdoors.
But the winning went far beyond that.
Katherine Sebov, who was here in Australia and qualified for the main draw just two years ago (and reached the final round last year), is back on the winning track after dealing with injuries for the last year.
Sebov won an ITF $25,000 tournament in Naples, Fla. on Sunday, over Jessica Pieri of Italy in the final. Notably, she ousted Can-American Carson Branstine in the first round.

Just turned 26, Sebov retired in that final-round qualifying match last year i Melbourne against countrywoman Rebecca Marino, missed more than three months and struggled with form. From a career high of No. 136 in April 2023, she has fallen to No. 370.
In Guadeloupe, Victoria Mboko – still just 18 and not long ago considered Canada’s best up-and-comer, won a similar-level tournament without dropping a set.

She defeated fellow Canadian (and her doubles partner) Cadence Brace in the semifinal, and No. 2 seed Clervie Ngounoue – also 18 and the junior Wimbledon champion in 2023 – in the final.
Mboko and Brace also combined to take the doubles title.
Draxl a finalist in Oeiras

Liam Draxl, 23, came down to Australia to warm the bench for the United Cup in early January (this is, if you didn’t know, a pretty lucrative proposition).
He didn’t stay Down Under, as he was some 10 spots out of the running to squeeze into the qualifying, and it wasn’t worth the calculated risk.
Instead, he headed to Portugal for an indoor Challenger. And he reached the final.
That puts him at a career-best No. 208 in the rankings. And ensures he won’t have any issues getting into the qualifying at the next Grand Slams in the spring and summer.
Finally, Juan Carlos Aguilar is also a champion, winning the doubles at the $15K men’s ITF in Jamaica with Aussie Cody Pearson.
A great week all around.
