Could Mirra Andreeva pull off a second consecutive upset in the semifinals, after straight-setting Iga Swiatek on Thursday?
She faced Elena Rybakina, who has had a lot going on off the court with the revelation of the details of her fraught relationship with former/current coach Stefano Vukov.
They had only met once, in Beijing in 2023 when Andreeva was just 16, ranked 60, and in her fifth match out of the qualifying. And it went three sets. But Andreeva pulled off the upset.
And Clara Tauson, a talented junior prospect whose rise on the WTA Tour has been stop-start because of injuries, just continues to win as she pulled off an upset of her own against of No. 14 seed Karolina Muchova.
(Dubai is 9 hours ahead of ET).
