The third round of singles wrapped up with just four of the eight scheduled matches having turned out the way they were laid out on paper, after the draw.

All of the “top-eight” seeds from the top half – Sabalenka, Gauff, Keys and Paolini – did make the date, though. And they all made it through. Some by the skin of their teeth.

Probably the most compelling was the one relegated to the back courts: No. 13 seed Diana Shnaider vs. wild card Belinda Bencic. Taken by the returning mom.
