The cousins – Monegasque Valentin Vacherot and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech – went all the way to the final and will met in the biggest match of their lives.
They had to get past Djokovic and a resurgent Daniil Medvedev. And they did. It’s a … different sort of final. But also a great story.
Vacherot has now played and won eight matches from the qualifying.
The two met only once – and it was eons ago, in a Futures in France back in 2018 (they’d have been 19 and 23 at the time, with Rindeknech four years older). And he won it 6-2, 6-4.
