Because of the uncertainty surrounding who the eighth and final player would be – and the fact that Novak Djokovic, who had originally been among them, was still in Athens playing – the ATP Tour had to split up the groups for the first round of pool play.
That means that some players won’t get a day off between matches. And others will get two instead of one. Which is far from ideal.
In the end, Djokovic is a no-show. And so Lorenzo Musetti will play Taylor Fritz on Monday
And Félix Auger-Aliassime makes it in the eighth spot.
