On the eighth day, it finally came down to two of the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour to duke it out for the crown jewel title of their Tour.

That Aryna Sabalenka was there is not a shock; that Elena Rybakina was almost the last one to quality for Riyadh and has looked her best self throughout the week was a most pleasant surprise.

And in the the, the last one in was the one who took home the big cheque – $5.2 million – and went out with a bang, too, although not of the good kind.
