MELBOURNE, Australia – No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek vs. No. 8 seed Emma Navarro is the “expected” outcome for the women’s quarterfinals. No. 19 Madison Keys vs. No. 28 Elina Svitolina, not so much.

It would be a shocker if Swiatek went down to Navarro. And it was a clean kill.

On the men’s side, unseeded Lorenzo Sonego was the surprise in the final eight, the beneficiary of a helpful draw that he took full advantage of. The match between him and Ben Shelton was one of the best of the tournament so far.
