SINGAPORE – Now, now, it’s not quite what you’re thinking.
But after her loss to Ana Ivanovic Wednesday night, the Canadian confirmed that she is as of this moment agent-less, no longer with Lagardère, which had represented her interests for many, many years.
Bouchard is expected to join industry giant IMG. But it’s not official yet.
Super-agent Max Eisenbud, who has, in the words of Li Na, made her (and Maria Sharapova) really “rich”, has been around the tournament but wouldn’t comment until when and if it’s official. Petra Kvitova is the most recent new IMG tennis client.
Bouchard didn’t name her new reps by name; word was that Tony Godsick’s boutique agency Team 8 Global, which represents Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Grigor Dimitrov, made a play. But at last word, IMG was a 99.9% done deal.
The Canadian had a little fun with it.
“Currently don’t have management right now. It’s in the process. May be able to announce something soon, but right now I’m free,” she said. “Single and ready to mingle.”
How does freedom feel?
“Great. Yeah, I don’t know, feel like maybe I was married and I just got divorce and I’m like, Ahhhh,” she said. “I hope that doesn’t happen to me in the future, but… I understand some songs, and some people, more now.”
