With Japanese law requiring Naomi Osaka to give up American citizenship to maintain her Japanese one by her 22nd birthday (Wednesday), she smartly went where the yen are.
A little research into U.S. immigration law turns up some obvious red tape, such as a fee ($2,350) and, because of her net worth and inherently appreciable assets (like her big new house in L.A.), an exit tax.
More pertinently, she will now be a “tourist” in the U.S., which would limit stays to 90 days.
Where will she live?
She also gives up that sweet Florida resident tax situation.
