Reports: Sabalenka loses father Sergey

For the second time this year, another well-known female player has lost her father far too young.

According to various reports out of Belarus, which received the news from the Belarus National Olympic Committee’s press service, Aryna Sabalenka’s father died suddenly early Friday morning.

Sergey Sabalenka, a former hockey goalie, was believed to be only 44 years old.

Sabalenka, 21, is a rare player ranked in the top 10 (or close) in both singles and doubles. She’s at No. 11 in singles currently, and No. 5 in doubles.

The tragic loss comes less than four months after Amanda Anisimova lost her father Konstantin.
