Bianca Andreescu, Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff were all on the San Jose sked. But Andreescu, improbably and unfortunately, came up with a back injury and lost to Shelby Rogers.

Cana-Kiwi Erin Routliffe is paired up with top-10 player and Roland Garros doubles finalist Jessica Pegula this week. And their first-rounder was pretty routine.

Osaka needed three sets to get past Zheng Qinwen.
