Six of the eight seeds made it to the quarterfinals in Dubai, with only Félix Auger-Aliassime (losing to Sonego Wednesday) and No. 6 Karen Khachanov (who was upset by Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round in his first match since losing in the semifinals of the Australian Open).
Novak Djokovic brought his undefeated 2023 record to a night session match against No. 5 seed Hubert Hurkacz.
Acapulco also was at the quarterfinal stage, with five seeds remaining (including three Americans), and unseeded Matteo Berrettini – who didn’t win a game in a rain-delayed, truncated retirement against Holger Rune.
(Dubai is nine hours ahead of ET, Santiago two hours ahead and Acapulco one hour behind).
