The day after the Miami Open announced its first batch of wild cards, the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells announced its full list.
It covers both main draw and the qualifying, which begins Sunday.
There are a few surprises (Lucas Pouille! Fabio Fognini!).
But not that many; the qualifying wild cards have all gone to Americans.
Women’s main draw wild cards
Karolina Pliskova
Emma Raducanu
Paula Badosa
Amanda Anisimova
Ashlyn Krueger
McCartney Kessler
Venus Williams (previously announced)
Caroline Wozniacki (previously announced)
Badosa and Anisimova have protected rankings they could use, so this saves them using one up on this tournament.
Krueger (ranked No. 70) would easily make it into the main draw on current ranking, although that wasn’t the case at the entry deadline, which was awhile ago. So – and especially because she’s American – it’s more than merited.
The same is true for Pliskova, who is currently ranked No. 38. She was outside the top 75 at the deadline.
Men’s main-draw wild cards
Brandon Nakashima
Fabio Fognini
Jakub Mensik
Patrick Kypson
Aleksandar Kovacevic
Women’s qualifying wild cards
Liv Hovde
Robin Montgomery
Iva Jovic
Haley Giavara
Clervie Ngounoue
Christasha McNeil
Men’s qualifying wild cards
Lucas Pouille (!!!)
Steve Johnson
Stefan Dostanic
Ethan Quinn
Cooper Woestendick
