After posting a surprisingly routine win over the tough veteran Roberto Bautista Agut, Denis Shapovlov was back in action on Tuesday against Adrian Mannarino, the No. 6 seed who is struggling mightily this year.
Somewhat surprisingly, the two haven’t met since … 2017, when Shapovalov was 18. He defeated him in the quarterfinals in Montreal in three sets, while Mannarino got his revenge in three sets on an even quicker court that fall in Basel. On Tuesday, it was easy.
