So just the final remained, between unseededs Paula Badosa and Marie Bouzkova. A fine match, won by Badosa.

In Toronto, the qualifying got under way with Canadians Katherine Sebov. Stacey Fung, Carson Branstine and … Eugenie Bouchard hoping to get through. Carol Zhao was a late add as an alternate, and won.

Bouchard had the toughest draw on paper, against No. 2 seed Moyuka Uchijima. Then again, last year in the qualifying in Montreal, she got Danielle Collins. She was up 7-5, 5-1 and …. well, it wasn’t pretty after that.
