MELBOURNE, Australia – When the draw came out, most pointed to a potential men’s singles quarterfinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

And so it came to be, and the two had the late match Tuesday on Rod Laver Arena. It was epic – not in typical way we use that word.

Three other quarterfinals – two of them women’s – also happened as the only singles action on Tuesday will be on the big stadium. And Coco Gauff’s loss was the big news there.
