Vavassori – primarily a top doubles player with fellow Italian Simone Bolelli – is a capable singles player who got through a pretty weak qualies draw. But still a good draw for FAA.

FAA retired after losing the second set, suffering from a toe issue that popped up in practice.

In Dallas, Shapovalov squeaked through.
