The final at the first WTA 1000 of the season features … two unseeded players.

Not ideal, obviously. But these aren’t two average unseededs. One’s a former Grand Slam champion, and another is a former world No. 21 on the comeup again. And it was Amanda Anisimova who wins it – and leaps into the top 20 for the first time.

In Cancún, Can-American Carson Branstine went for by far the biggest title of her career at the WTA 125 there. But she was clearly unwell and although she finished the match, wasn’t able to get the W.

And in Dubai, with the tennis never stopping, the final round of qualifying.
