No seeds in action on the first day of the main draw at Indian Wells. Those 32 seeds have first-round byes, and won’t start until at least Thursday.
So the pickings were a little slim. But there were some interesting openers to be had.
Notably: a lot of star power on the stadium court where the returning Petra Kvitova opened proceedings. Competitive, but out.
And then, a player who hadn’t been seen since retiring in the third round of the Australian Open: Naomi Osaka. Also out.
