Two Canadians up – Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo – with Diallo having a golden opportunity to get to the third round.

Diallo squeezed in as a lucky loser with the withdrawal of Yoshihito Nishioka. And then his opponent, Kamil Majchrzak, got in even later when Carlos Alcaraz withdrew.

Machjrzak inherited Alcaraz’s bye in the first round. And the winner plays Cameron Norrie. A great chance, and Diallo took it. So did Shapovalov.

The other noteworthy thing is how many entertaining and talented players are in the bottom half of the seeds: Tsitsipas, Tiafoe, Dimitrov, Berrettini.

And also: Novak Djokovic. And Tommy Paul v Joao Fonseca. A loaded day. This half of the draw is pretty lit.
