The endless Madrid is done. Now the endless Rome takes its place during the slowest-moving part of the season, most would agree.

The good news is that two Canadians squeezed into the qualifying – Victoria Mboko by wild card, Marina Stakusic because of other withdrawals.

Mboko was through easily, against a tough opponent. Stakusic couldn’t get over the line.

And it’ll be quite a thing to see longtime former top-five player Maria Sakkari in the qualifying. But that’s where she is at the moment even if she had a decent Madrid.
