In Gstaad, a final between two unseeded players is buttressed by an all-Swiss, May-December doubles team in that final: Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker. And they won it.

In Newport, there was be a young American, and a veteran Frenchman, in the singles final. Experience won out.
