Want a flashback? Here’s a good one.
Going through the nearly-full external hard drive trying to purge, we came across this early attempt (underline: attempt) at shooting match video at the 2010 US Open.
It was the third round of the juniors girls, and two unseeded 1994s were going at it.
You might recognize them: Genie Bouchard and Ons Jabeur.
(There’s a Gaby Dabrowski cameo in there; Dabrowski and Bouchard played doubles together that year).

Daria Gavrilova (now Saville) defeated Yulia Putintseva in the final, after getting past Stephens in a third-set tiebreak in the semis.
Jabeur, who is in the Charleston semifinals this weekend, was beaten by Putintseva in the semis in 2010.
Oh – and another undiscovered gem: Canadian Katarena Paliivets, who was one of the players in the early days of the national centre in Montreal, came up against No. 4 seed Elina Svitolina in the first round.
And gave her a fairly tough time.
Here’s that one.
Here were the seeds that year:
[1] Daria Gavrilova (1994)
[2] Timea Babos (1993)
[3] Irina Kromacheva (1995)
[4] Elina Svitolina (1994)
[5] Monica Puig (1993)
[6] Karolina Pliskova (1992)
[7] Kristyna Pliskova (1992)
[8] Laura Robson (1994)
[9] Gabriela Dabrowski (1992)
[10] Jana Cepelova (1993)
[11] An-Sophie Mestach (1994)
[12] Zheng Saisai (1994)
[13] Tang Hao Chen (1994)
[14] –
[15] Sloane Stephens (1993)
[16] Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor (1992)
Other notables
[WC] Jessica Pegula (1994)
[WC] Madison Keys (1995)
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (1994)
Caroline Garcia (1993)
Danka Kovinic (1994)
Yulia Putintseva (1995)
Seeing Monica Puig’s name made me realize that I haven’t seen her playing anywhere for quite some time. Is she injured, or did I miss a retirement announcement? Tks.
Couple of major surgeries (shoulder, like Bouchard – dicey) and elbow, I think.
If I remember correctly, she might finally be returning next week.
She’s been working with Victoria Azarenka’s 2021 coach, Dorian Descloix.
