Both out of singles, Canadian Leylah Fernandez and partner Taylor Townsend began their doubles quest, to build upon their final at the Miami Open earlier this month.

In their opener, they faced a team they got through in Miami – No. 2 seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko. This time, they got through a lot easier.

On the singles side, lots of sizzle: Gauff v Badosa, Samsonova v Ostapenko, and the continuation of the run by 15-year-old wild card Mirra Andreeva.

And the highly-anticipated doubles return of Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova. That one started badly, and ended in triumph.
