There were no Canadians in the final round of qualifying on the men’s side, with Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau both going out on Wednesday.

The final round is a different beast, with the men playing best-of-five for the right to get access to the main draw and its potential windfall of prize money and points.

No. 6 seed Luca Van Assche of France, who was the next alternate into the main draw – except no one pulled out in time – battled through a couple of matches and was one to watch.

But he faced a countryman, Lucas Pouille, who was top-10 for a hot minute but has been battling himself, just trying to get back to somewhere meaningful in the rankings. And he went down in three straight sets. Which is a total shame for him, but great for Pouille.

Only two of the 16 men’s matchups went according to form – i.e. seed is meeting seed.

On the women’s side, there are also only two.

But three 19-year-olds made it – including Canadian Marina Stakusic.
