And we looked to see if giant Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, whose star was so much on the ascendancy not very long ago, could get it kickstarted ahead of his home Slam at Roland Garros.

He faced a tough customer in Jordan Thompson, though. And fell just short.

No Canadians until Thursday, when Gabriel Diallo will play.
