The Chennai Open, one of the longstanding events during the first week of the ATP Tour season, is moving.
IMG and the Reliance Group, which own the event, had extended the tournament’s contract to 2019 earlier this year. But they cancelled it. The tournament now will be called the Maharashtra Open and take place in Pune.
The event lost title sponsor Aircel after a merger.
Pune is about a two-hour drive from Chennai. But there are no direct flights to Melbourne, site of the Australian Open.
There will be less humidity – but more altitude.
